Marie Keane

Marie is the founder and manager of Harmania Academy of Music Education & Performance and teaches mainly piano, vocals and toddler pre-instrumental classes. She believes passionately in the ability of all children and adults which can be developed under the right guidance and perseverance and has worked with people of all ages, musical backgrounds including individuals with dyslexia, autism and physical disabilities.

She has received training in the Kodaly method and an introduction in Dalcroze Eurythmics. In October 2013, Marie was awarded her Level One; July 2015 for Level Two and April 2018 for her level 3 in her training for the Suzuki method in piano and is currently underway to sit her the teaching diploma with the Associate Board of the Royal School of Music in piano. Her examiners include the esteemed Peter Hagn-Meinke (Denmark), Kristinn Örn Kristinsson (Iceland) and Sue Bird (Wales). Marie has been guided under the wonderful tutelage of Mary McCarthy (Edinburgh) and Marie Gaye-Barton (Edinburgh) for eight years in the Suzuki method.

She also completed Level One in the Suzuki music mind games approach to reading in February 2016. In July 2017, Marie also completed Level 1 and 2 of the Suzuki Early Childhood Development Education course with the renowned Dorothy Jones who has developed this worldwide.

Her studies in pedagogical observation in this method has brought her all over Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Latvia observing teaching pianoforte, guitar, cello, violin and viola hosted by international tutors. In September 2016 she gained a lifetime opportunity to travel to Japan to observe and receive lessons from some of the most experienced Suzuki piano teachers in Tokyo and Matsumoto where Dr. Suzuki developed this now globally acclaimed method.

Marie has worked with some of the finest Jazz musicians in the country including vocal training with Honor Heffernan, six years of guitar training with Brendan Sheeran and vocal training throughout her life with her mother who was awarded a fellowship with the London School of Music.

For over 20 years Marie has performed in various blues, soul and jazz musical ensembles. Highlights include a residency at the Late Night Gaiety, mainstage at the Metrolpole in the Cork Jazz Festival and opening the Sculpture in Context Exhibition performing an original composition.

From June to December 2018 she recorded her inaugural album ‘Russian Doll’ of completely original material produced and recorded by Alan Kelly which was launched at the Sugar Club on Leeson Street, Sunday 27th 2019.

As of August 2021, Marie is currently working on her second original album with producer Alan Kelly.

Aside from her musical endeavours, Marie also holds and honours degree in Science from Trinity College Dublin, a post-graduate diploma in Event Management and PR from the Fitzwilliam Institute and a diploma in web design from the Bray College of further education.
